Wat Ban Thap – Mae Chaem – Chiang Mai Province, Thailand

Wat Ban Thap’s viharn wall is adorned with a gaudy green mosaic Buddha image. More elegant is the adjacent chedi marked with 12 beautifully executed astrological signs. The ubosot (ordination hall) is gorgeous. The end of the complex has a stairway leading into extensive rice paddies,  guarded by superbly-detailed naga (guardian serpents).
